This poster is an original 1937 Issue poster from Imperial Airways. They issued a series of posters with cutaways of different airliners from their fleet. This is one of the more recognized posters they issued. This is a museum quality piece, as noted by the fact that the National air and Space Museum has this poster in their prized collection located within the Smithsonian. This poster depicts a Cross-section of an Ensign, Armstrong Whitworth A.W.27 passenger airliner, flying over the Suez Canal with the rural landscape in the background. The cutout itself is very thorough with lots of details shown within the cabin of the airplane. The bottom has the Imperia Airways Speedbird Logo. The poster itself was produced in England by Imperial Airways through the Ben Johnson & Co and Stuarts Advertising Agency. The arwork was done by James Gardner.
The poster itself measures 40" x 25.4". It has been linen backed by ThePosterNest. The poster was cleaned and de-acid washed, then backed onto a canvas backing with a masa paper buffer using PH balanced wheat paste. The poster was then touched up with archival media such as color pencils and watercolors. The linen backing borders are about .75" around the edge of the poster.
Professionally Linen Backed, this poster underwent meticulous restoration:
- De-acid washed to remove acidity.
- Thoroughly cleaned to eliminate dirt and stains.
- Backed onto canvas lined with acid-free Masa paper, using PH balanced wheat paste.
- Touched up with water-soluble watercolors and watercolor pencils.
